have a TASTE of THE MOON
THIS MID-AUTUMN SEASON

pexels-n-voitkevich-9863717.jpg

Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for families and friends to come together, admire the full moon and enjoy an evening of lanterns, festivities and good food. The festival is deeply rooted in Chinese traditions, with the full moon symbolising reunion and togetherness.

And what better way to join in than with a mooncake? These round pastries are traditionally shared during the festival, with classic varieties filled with lotus paste and salted egg yolk sitting alongside an ever-growing selection of modern creations.

If you’re visiting Singapore during Mid-Autumn Festival, it’s a great opportunity to experience this much-loved tradition through food. From luxurious hotel creations to local bakeries and inventive new flavours, here are some places to pick up a mooncake and get a taste of the season.

A perennial favourite during Singapore’s Mid-Autumn season, Raffles Hotel’s Champagne Truffle Snow-Skin Mooncake has become one of the hotel’s signature festive treats. Beneath its soft, delicate snow-skin exterior is smooth white lotus paste and a rich truffle centre, creating a luxurious contrast between the gentle sweetness of the lotus and the deeper, earthy notes of truffle.

Its popularity comes from that distinctive combination — familiar enough to feel like a mooncake, yet unexpected enough to stand out from the traditional varieties. Paired with the timeless reputation of Raffles, it has become a sought-after choice for both returning fans and first-time mooncake explorers.

If you’re looking to try a mooncake that captures Singapore’s love for putting a modern spin on tradition, this Raffles classic is a delicious place to start.

At Peach Blossoms at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, tradition gets a contemporary makeover with its 2026 Timeless Treasures collection. Crafted by Executive Chinese Chef Edward Chong, the collection brings together familiar mooncake flavours with more unexpected combinations, including the new Charcoal Lychee with Longan, Wolfberries and Okinawan Brown Sugar Mochi.

The standout is a playful mix of textures and flavours — fragrant lychee tea-infused paste, little bursts of dried longan and chewy Okinawan brown sugar mochi come together in one mooncake. It’s a refreshing departure from the usual festive flavours, while still retaining the sense of indulgence that makes mooncakes such a highlight of Mid-Autumn celebrations.

For visitors looking to go beyond the classic lotus paste and salted egg yolk, Peach Blossoms offers a taste of how Singapore’s mooncake scene continues to evolve — taking a centuries-old tradition and giving it a distinctly modern twist.

Mr Bucket Chocolaterie takes a decidedly local approach to chocolate, drawing inspiration from Singapore’s favourite flavours and the diverse ingredients found across Asia. That same spirit carries into its Mid-Autumn creations, where familiar tastes are reimagined as handcrafted chocolate mooncakes.

This year’s collection includes flavours such as Orh Nee Tang Yuan, combining yam, salted egg, shallot oil and mochi, alongside Kinako Mochi and Osmanthus Pear. Beyond the seasonal collection, Mr Bucket is also known for playful local-inspired creations such as Pandan Coconut, Nasi Lemak and Kaya Toast — turning flavours you might recognise from Singapore’s food scene into unexpected chocolate treats.

It’s chocolate with a taste of home — familiar flavours, unexpected forms and plenty of surprises along the way. But for visitors to Singapore, it’s one sweet way to get acquainted with Singapore’s food culture without needing a fork and plate.

A familiar name when Mid-Autumn season rolls around, Janice Wong has long brought her signature artistic flair to the mooncake tradition. Her creations are known for turning familiar flavours into intricate edible works of art, making them a recurring favourite for those looking to celebrate the festival with something a little different.

This year’s collection continues that tradition with her Signature Baked Mooncakes, featuring flavours inspired by ingredients cherished by generations of Singaporeans. Black Sesame Pecan Tangerine Peel brings together roasted black sesame, buttery pecan and dried tangerine peel, while Pistachio Longan Red Date combines nutty pistachio with the naturally sweet notes of longan and red date. Known for turning pastries into picture-perfect works of art, Cédric Grolet brings the same sense of theatre to Mid-Autumn Festival with a Singapore-exclusive mooncake collection. His baked mooncakes combine Chinese lotus paste with French pâte de fruit, creating colourful creations that look more like delicate pastries than the mooncakes you might expect.

The 2026 collection features Raspberry Lime, Passion Fruit Coconut, Lemon Vanilla and Cherry Matcha, with each flavour balancing the richness of lotus paste against bright, fruit-forward notes. For something even more indulgent, his signature chocolate-shell mooncakes return in Raspberry alongside a new Hazelnut creation, layered with praline, sponge, caramel and hazelnut gel.

But at the end of the day, if you want to experience Mid-Autumn Festival the traditional way, Tai Chong Kok is a name worth knowing. A Singapore confectionery with roots dating back to 1935, it has spent three generations making Cantonese pastries and traditional mooncakes by hand, keeping its recipes and techniques close to their original form.

Its mooncakes stay true to the classics, with familiar fillings such as lotus paste, red bean, black sesame, mixed nuts and eight treasures. The bakery still makes its lotus paste from 100% pure lotus seeds without preservatives, while its mooncakes are formed using the same traditional wooden moulds used at its original Sago Street shop in Chinatown.

For those visiting here, this is more than just a mooncake to try — it’s a chance to taste a piece of Singapore’s Cantonese confectionery heritage, just as generations before have done during Mid-Autumn.
