Arab street
Arab Street is a vibrant cultural stretch in the heart of Kampong Glam, known for its rich heritage, colourful shophouses and lively mix of shopping, food and nightlife.
The area is best recognised for its textile stores, carpet shops, perfume boutiques and small independent cafés that line the street, giving it a distinct Middle Eastern and Malay-inspired atmosphere.
Just a short walk away is Kampong Glam, one of Singapore’s oldest heritage districts, where Arab Street sits as part of the wider cultural enclave. The iconic Sultan Mosque stands nearby, acting as the focal point of the neighbourhood with its striking golden dome and historical significance.

A short walk from Arab Street leads visitors to Haji Lane, a narrow alley famous for its vibrant street art, indie fashion boutiques, hidden cafés and trendy bars. The lane has become especially popular among younger crowds and tourists looking for a more artistic and contemporary side of Singapore. Together, Arab Street and Haji Lane create a unique contrast between heritage culture and modern urban lifestyle.
The district is also well known for its diverse food scene. Restaurants and cafés throughout the area serve Middle Eastern, Turkish, Mediterranean and local Malay cuisine, alongside dessert cafés and late-night eateries. By evening, the neighbourhood transforms into a lively social destination filled with outdoor dining, live music and nightlife spread across its heritage streets.
Despite its modern popularity, Arab Street continues to preserve much of its historical identity through its architecture, traditional businesses and cultural landmarks. Combining culture, food, shopping and nightlife within one walkable district, it remains one of Singapore’s most atmospheric and photogenic places to visit.
Getting to Arab Street is convenient via Bugis MRT Station on the East-West and Downtown Lines. From the station, the area is only a short walk away and easily accessible by bus, taxi and private-hire services from most parts of Singapore.
