Where to buy local brands
in Singapore
Here are our favorite stores that stock local products.
SUPERMAMA
Home to an interesting array of homeware and objet d'arts created by local (and Japanese) designers, the tidy displays, white walls and plants give this understated space a delightfully calm feeling. One local brand to watch out for is the boutique's own in-house label, Democratic Society, which collaborates with local designers and art studios to create thoughtful, functional items with a unique identity.
Address: 30A Seah St., 9831-3691, S(188386), MRT: Esplanade
KAPOK
Although it hails from Hong Kong, this multi-label lifestyle store has a good representation of local designers among the 100 niche labels in stock. Its labels include womenswear line Stolen, known for its sharp, backless dresses, and Saught, which makes beautiful jewelry using materials salvaged from landmines and unexploded ordnance.
Address: #01-05 National Design Centre, 111 Middle Rd., 6339-7987, S(188969), MRT: Bras Basah
THE DAMN GOOD SHOP
This straight-talking emporium is the brainchild of the cool folks behind social media agency Goodstuph. It houses one-off vintage items, local labels and limited edition products by Singaporean brands. These include retro eyewear by Mystic Vintage and artwork by design company FLABSLAB. Everything here is unique and collectible, handpicked by owner and PR guru Pat Law.
Address: #01-02 30 Maxwell Rd., Singapore, 069114
CAT SOCRATES
Located in Bras Basah Complex, which is worth a wander anyway for its maze of interesting shops, this cozy indie store is packed with whimsical collectibles and novelty trinkets. Best sellers include scrapbooking essentials, cute stationery, tin robots, and their prized "moustache" collection (pouches, umbrellas, you name it). Noteworthy local brands here are Momshoo, which makes whimsical knitted accessories, and Wheniwasfour, which turns childhood memories like potong ice cream into cute miniature pins.
Address: #02-25 Bras Basah Complex, 231 St., 6333-0870, S(180231), MRT: Bras Basah
